I played Sleazoid Mutant Freaks From Cannibal Island at Reaper Con (shout out to Jono for running a killer game!) last year and had an absolutely wonderful time. Since there’s an awesome sale going on for a ton of Neon Lords of the Toxic Wasteland stuff, I thought I’d do a review! If you don’t don’t have Neon Lords, go grab the free Quick Star- I mean, Sick Start Rulez. That’ll get you everything that you need to start playing. Check out the end for a quick run-down of some extra Neon Lords content. But for now, let’s get into our adventure review!
Sleazoid Mutant Freaks From Cannibal Island
You went from sipping atomic Mai Tais and virgin Pina Coladas on a beach in FrogTown to waking up in a cold tub filled with ice and some random stitches where your kidney used to be. The good news is they were dumb enough to toss you in the tub with all your gear, the bad news is your skin is turning green.
The PDF is a quick 13 pages but that’s plenty to keep a group occupied for a night’s session. The 13th page is cut-outs for the various Sleazoid Mutant Freaks so this one is perfect to bring to the game table but you can also make quick VTT tokens out of those too. Each page details one or two rooms and has an image of the room directly taken from the dungeon map. That makes it very easy to run. However, there’s a lot of Dumpster Diving (a d66 table from the core rules) that you do in this adventure so I’d definitely print that out or have the page open on a separate monitor. The dumpster diving table creates a ton of fun for the adventure and will make it feel different each time. There’s a lot of really colorful results there. Each dumpster also has a 2-in-6 chance of having a kidney and trash cans have a 1-in-6 chance of having a kidney. Remember how you’re kidneys got stolen, well, you kinda just some “a kidney” not necessary your own kidney. The wonders of modern medicine.
The dungeon map isn’t Jazquays’d but it has a couple nodes. That said, it’d be easy to add a secret door between areas 3 and 6, and 4 and 7. Adjust to your own preference and if players start asking about secret doors. However, the normal path requires you to explore various rooms until you find a way out of here. Each room has something interesing to mess around with and all the fights feel like fun set pieces. You’ll find crazy weapons and even some Key Cards of various colors (like in Doom). There’s only 9 detailed rooms making it a small dungeon, but it’s plenty for a single adventure and each of the rooms are really fun. It feels perfectly sized to me. Things eventually lead to the “organ processing room” which has a ton of sleazoids working on a conveyer belt where they pack kidneys into little Styrofoam plates and cover them with saran wrap. It’s an awesome scene for a huge gun fight.
After that, you can escape through the sewers, find a skiff, and sail out to the open sea. However, you’ll have to fight one Mega Sleazoid on your way out! There’s a cool little 1d4 events that could happen after the adventure. They’re each written kinda like a movie that ends on a cliffhanger which sets up the sequel. I loved it at for the convention one-shot I played in and it’s an awesome way to help the GM get in the mindset for the next game session.
Summary

Summer Knights Online Charity Con (Aug 2-4)
Summer Knights Online Charity Con is looking for GMs to run games. Proceeds from the event will support World Central Kitchen. Its the same weekend as Gen Con but online. So if you can't make that Gen Con trip but still want to game a ton that weekend, join in! I know I'll be submitting something just as soon as I get my new work schedule figured out.
Hey thanks for the review!! Glad you had fun!
Yo!!!! Shout out for the shout out! This was the first adventure I played. It was run by Brian for an online con. I can't remember if he abandoned finding kidneys as an option for this session. Either way, we never found any or we failed to bring them with us. But at the end after we had the boss fight and were speeding away from the island, the doc who agreed to put our kidneys back in asked "so who's got the kidneys?" *Freeze frame on our confused faces*
Definitely the perfect module for a con or introduction to NL In general. And using the paper minis is a blast.
